I’m quick to assist in other people’s journeys, it’s a natural inclination for me, I think since I was a kid.
When someone calls me with a problem or wants to vent, I’m happy to be a sounding board. And I pretty much always respond with some type of optimism for their situation. This could be a fault, but mostly it feels good so I don’t mind the blindspot this potentially could create.
But there is a second blindspot I’ve only just realized.
When you’re always the person who’s rooting for other people, who’s there to support and provide optimism…
It’s easy to miss that other people are happily interested in being that, for you.
It’s only just occurred to me that there may be other people out there who are actively happy to assist me in getting where I’d like to go.
How selfish, to not see this. I suppose it relates to your identity, if you see yourself as the helper, you don’t always realize that others can do the helping.
But this is a good realization to have.
How nice is it that you, too, have support.
